AI Chat
Yumi's AI Chat combines conversational AI with web search to help you find answers, research topics, and think through problems.
Ask
Ask is the cloud-powered AI chat mode. When you ask a question, Yumi will either answer directly or search the web when relevant and provides a synthesized response with cited sources.
How It Works
- Type your question in the chat input.
- Yumi determines whether a web search is needed.
- If searching, relevant results are retrieved and provided as context to the AI model.
- The AI generates a response with inline source citations.
- If no web search is needed, then a direct response will be provided.
Attaching Context
You can attach notes as context to your chat messages. This allows the AI to reference your own notes when generating responses.
You can use the @ syntax to reference note(s) across your workspaces.
By default, Smart Search will automatically attach relevant context across your notes and chats to your prompts. You can dismiss it by pressing the close icon if you don't need relevant context for that particular message.
By default, local context (i.e., local notes, local chats) are not included. You must go to Settings > Smart Search > Add Local Content as AI Context (Ask/Local) to show them.
AI Models
Yumi uses a variety of open-source AI models in Ask chat. We update them based on our inference provider and product needs.

Local mode lets you run AI models directly on your machine for private, offline conversations. See Local AI Overview for setup instructions.
